Hands get funnier the more you look at them!

Look at your hands. Why are you grateful for them?

The reason it’s taken me so long to answer this question is that I had this great plan of signing the post and writing a transcript. However I can’t get myself organized enough to actually film it so I’m going to just write it instead – otherwise I’ll never get around to doing it!

So to start with I’m learning to sign, and hands as well as facial expressions and body movements are part of speaking the language. I’m thankful that they do what my brain tells them to do. It’s just a pity that my brain tells them to do the wrong sign occasionally!

I also enjoy glass painting and lots of other crafts and I’m thankful that I have a steady hand and the patience for tiny detail.

I have nice naturally long nails. I used to play the guitar, so for many years I had short nails on one hand and long nails on the other. Now I grow them all and enjoy painting them.

I inherited odd crooked little fingers from my dad that make them look as though they have been broken at some point in my life. His were exactly the same shape! I’m even thankful that they are not the same as other peoples little fingers!

I would hate to lose a finger or my hands. A couple of years ago I was washing a glass and it broke, slashing my right index finger and thumb very deeply. I was worried that I had done some serious damage. I had to have an ambulance and stitches and that was the first time I had ever thought about how important my fingers and hands were to me. Then last year I stubbed my left ring finger very badly and when I told them at the hospital that I signed and that it was important I didn’t lose any movement they kindly sent me for physiotherapy even though they wouldn’t normally give physio. on a left hand injury to a right handed person.

I’m thankful for my hands - It’s just a pity that the skin that covers them is looking a bit wrinklier than it did when I was younger.
