What's your first/one of your first memories?
suggested by iamnotgemma

There are many things that I think I can remember from childhood, but actually it is only because I have been told about it or have seen the photos. But these three below are definitely my memories and are the earliest ones that I can recall.

Until recently my very earliest memory had been of something that happened when I was a toddler, before I had learnt to talk. Mom was holding my hand as we walked along the beach and I was wearing a really pretty red and white dress and bonnet that she had made for me. I truly loved it. As we walked along, I was paddling in the very shallows of the sea. All of a sudden I tripped up, landing face first in the water and wet sand. I began to cry and as I wasn’t a child who shed tears very often, my mom picked me up and comforted me thinking I had hurt myself or I had given myself a fright falling in the water. I wasn’t able to tell her that I hadn’t hurt myself at all and that actually, I was upset because I thought that I’d ruined my pretty outfit!!

The next memory I have is from a few days before my fifth birthday. I clearly remember sitting on the toilet on the day of the moon landing and thinking, “I’m going to try really hard to remember this day for the rest of my life”. Funnily enough I have a very clear memory of everything relating to the bathroom decor and not much memory of any of the moon landing facts. Lol!!

Lastly, at the beginning of January this year, Steve and I were watching a programme about giraffes and I, just making conversation, asked him if he had ever seen one in real life. He replied that he hadn’t and then strangely from nowhere I told to him that I had once seen one at a zoo, and that it had been so tall that it had scared me and made me cry!!! Steve found this comment really funny - that someone could be scared of something because it was too tall. He asked me how old I was and I replied that I had no idea as I’d never remembered the incident until that moment, but that I also remembered being in a pushchair at the time so I must have been young!
I rang my mom up and told her about suddenly remembering this incident and asked her to confirm whether it actually happened or not and if it had, how old I had been at the time. She replied that it was true and between us we worked out that it predated my earliest memory of falling in the water by a few months.

balderdash_game community promotion - please join us.

As I have lots friends who love their words, I would like to invite everyone to join balderdash_game.

We are a small friendly group who have fun playing balderdash on LJ. So if you enjoy playing with words then have a look at the community and join us.

The new game will be posted on Sunday 3rd May at 10pm BST.

Balderdash is a game with 5 different rounds played over 5 weeks (words, dates, films, people and initials) The idea of the game is not actually to guess the real answer, although you get a point if you do, but to try to convince other people that your definition is the real answer.

The game only requires a definition to be sent in to me by private message sometime between Sunday 10pm BST and Wednesday 10pm BST and a visit to the site between Wednesday 10pm BST and Sunday 10pm BST to vote.

Anyone, whether a member of the community, a watcher or a non member, may pop in and vote in any round or game.

Please join the group if you would like to join in the game and send in a definition for a round - but please note that if you do send in a definition for a round you will need to be able to visit the community later in the same week (after Wednesday evening) to cast a vote. You can play just one week as and when you want to or you can play a full game, although all members at the moment play the full game.

As an example of how the game works, the first round in a new game is the 'word' round. I post a word on a Sunday evening, and players make up a definition and PM it to me. On Wednesday evening all the definitions, plus the real one, are posted and everyone has until Sunday night to vote for which one they think is the real answer. If someone votes for your definition you get a point and if you vote for the right answer you get a point. The person with the most points at the end of the five rounds is the winner of the game.

  2. What is your favorite boy name?

  3. How many sets of twins are there in your family?

  4. What's your favorite type of candy?

  5. What genre do you like reading the most?

1. I've always liked Sarah. But theres a little red haired girl down across the street from me called Amber (maybe her mom is a 'Tribe' fan!) That's a great name.

2. I've always liked Dickon (from 'The Secret Garden') but in this day and age it would be unfair to call a child Dickon. I also like Luke and Adam.

3. None.

4. Twirl chocolate bar.

5. I do like my chick lits and do tend to intersperse them between the other books I read.
