The beginning of the 70s saw the Christmas comedy song theme continue into the twee and then fun.
I was never a big fan of Benny Hill although he was very popular. I think I was an over the top child feminist at the time LOL! Also this single was quite hard to track down it took me about 4 years to find it.
At the charity radio station where I first played the Christmas no1s, People rang in and pledged to have a record played. While I was playing Long Haired Lover, someone rang up and offered us £20 to turn it off!!
Slade are going to be forever in and out of the charts at Christmas time with this single. I think that this song has become more well known than any traditional Christmas song.
Here's the next three songs;
Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody
1973
Little Jimmy Osmond - Long Haired Lover From Liverpool
1972
Benny Hill - Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)
1971
